Ingenia Communities CEO and MD Simon Owen: “We just can’t meet demand“

The speech by Simon Owen, CEO and Managing Director of Ingenia Communities, at the DCM Group’s Leaders Summit MASTERCLASS in Sydney, showed why he has turned the business into a $2.1 billion giant.

Simon’s speech, which you can read more about in the SATURDAY digital magazine, was based on the land lease operator’s “all-ages” Ingenia Rental division.

“These are communities where we could either sell the homes or rent them, and we’re choosing to rent them for great social purpose. But also, I think it generates a better outcome for our investors,” Simon told the MASTERCLASS.

With research by PWC, Ingenia has identified a further 36 towns, villages and communities on the East Coast with populations of more than 10,000, where rental vacancy rates are less than 2% and there is strong employment growth – all represent potential locations for new Ingenia affordable all-age rental communities.

Simon said that every time he visits his communities – often only for an hour – it’s “not unusual” for three or four people to walk in off the street and ask if there is any rental accommodation.
