Resistance to renters in villages is breaking down. Historically retirement villages have not made vacant units available for rent, held back by state legislative restrictions and complaints by residents that they are the owners of the village and don’t want renters using their facilities.
Uniting NSW.ACT currently has a total of 1,447 rental tenants across its 89 villages, but Uniting is “transitioning 62 villages over to rental only communities over time as existing Retirement Village Act (RVA) contracts expire,” Uniting Property and Housing Director Simon Furness tells us.
