With construction costs up 30 to 40% and retirement villages at a planning disadvantage, is it time for village operators to give up being the ‘affordable option’, especially if they want a future?

In recent years, the average two-bedroom retirement village independent living unit (ILU) has sunk from 85% to around 65% of the local median house price, according to the PwC/Property Council Retirement Census. Villages have been holding their prices whilst surrounding property prices skyrocket.
