Unions’ aged care fight not over

Once considered a pipe dream, the unions’ fight for a 25% wage increase for aged care workers is now reality – now the Health Services Union has a new strategy.

The union is targeting wages for administration and maintenance staff as well as portable long service leave, minimum qualifications and training on the back of its success at the Fair Work Commission (FWC).

The FWC published its final determination in the work value case for nurses working in residential and home care aged care in December 2024 – four years after the HSU lodged its work value case.
