It was back in April 2023 that The Weekly SOURCE’s SATURDAY magazine devoted itself to Ryman Healthcare’s “A Solution for Australia’s Aged Care System — Continuum of Care” white paper.
The foundation of the concept is that the customer self funds their village accommodation and care support pathway. The business model delivers efficiencies across retirement living, supported living and aged care.
DCM Group CEO Chris Baynes then wrote a highly read Opinion article in the following Tuesday's The Weekly SOURCE: "Continuum of care is the only way forward for retirement living operators".
Ryman Healthcare then received a call from the office of the Minister for Aged Care, Anika Wells, asking if she could tour of one of Ryman's villages in Melbourne. Meetings were held in Canberra.
Ryman Healthcare and consultancy firm The Civic Partnership won an award for their promotion of the white paper.
So how good is continuum of care for Ryman Healthcare in Victoria? It has eight operational villages with six having aged care centres in operation.
“With care centre occupancy at our mature villages sitting above 98%, it’s a clear indication that occupancy is not an issue if the care offering and environment are of the highest quality,” Ryman’s General Manager of Operations – Australia Rami Kamel, said.
“Most pleasingly for us is that the majority of residents in our care centres have come from the retirement living side of that village.
“That’s a key indicator of a continuum of care model working as it was designed – to meet the needs of our residents within the same village community at every stage of their ageing journey.
“And if they do need it, the transition to care is far smoother because they’re remaining in the same familiar environment, with staff who they know and, often, a partner living in the village just a short walk away.”
