The facility would be Living Choice’s third retirement village in the adjoining Hornsby and Hills north-west Sydney districts and was reportedly purchased for $10.5 million.
As we reported here, in 2018 the high rate of retirement villages being built in the Hills district led the NSW Government to place harsher restrictions on operators’ ability to extend their development by purchasing additional land.
Living Choice General Manager, Jason Sack, said the company purchased the Galston greenfield site because it “already had an approved development application and site compatibility certificate for seniors housing.”
However, Hornsby Council has since refused Living Choice’s proposed amendments to the approval and called for a resubmission of the development application and Site Compatibility Certificate (SCC) before they can extend.
“We are caught up in political wrangling between the local councils, who have a NIMBY attitude, and the State Government, who are trying to make it easier for these developments to be approved,” Mr Sack told The Daily Telegraph.
