The Coalition held a snap Shadow Cabinet meeting at 8:30am this morning – followed by a snap party room meeting at 10:30am to discuss the Government’s aged care reforms, according to media reports. 

News outlets suggest that Labor has made further changes to the legislation to secure bipartisan agreement on the new Aged Care Act and the recommendations of the Aged Care Taskforce. 

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton told 2GB Radio that he has been in discussions with Labor about the reforms and his party would decide soon. 

“There is a cost for anyone who wants to go into aged care. That’s a reality for all of us,” he said. 

“We’ve got an ageing population, we have to deal with that and sometimes there are tough decisions to make, but we’ll have that discussion and then see what we do from there.” 

If Coalition MPs agree to the reforms, the Government is expected to announce the changes and table the legislation in Parliament, which will not sit for another month after today.
