NSW Retirement Village Residents Association: concerns over 23/24 Budgets hit new high

1 min read

The soaring cost of living and the retirement living operators’ needs to cover insurance price hikes and increase the wages of staff is causing major concerns around the forthcoming annual budget for retirement village residents.

Craig Bennett, President of the NSW Retirement Village Residents Association (RVRA), said the state body had received over 70 calls from village residents’ committees objecting to the budgets proposed by operators.

“In May we get around 30, sometimes 40, this is a very high number,” Craig told The Weekly SOURCE.

“Most of the inquiries are procedural. What happens if we reject the budget, what happens next.

“It is getting tough for a lot of people. I was told the cost of power, with solar on the roof, is back to where it was before solar.”

Village residents’ committees have been advised to negotiate with operators on their budgets and if there is no resolution, to take the issues to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).
