Just 66,000 aged care workers or 20% of the workforce had completed the Morrison Government’s training in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as of 4 June, evidence to the COVID-19 select¬ committee has revealed.

The free online program to educate workers in infection control had been funded by $44,000 from the $101.2 million the Government provided to the sector in March to prevent the spread of the virus.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison had defended the Commonwealth’s preparedness for the pandemic specifically pointing out their initiatives in relation to aged care training this week, saying outbreaks would continue to occur and stressing the importance of every aged care worker to undertake the training.
