Opal HealthCare adds sixth storey to $100M+ care community co-located with Keyton retirement village

Opal HealthCare, the largest residential aged care operator in Australia, has lodged a development application to build Ascot Grove Care Community at the retirement living developer Keyton's Bernborough Ascot precinct in Brisbane, 7km north east of the CBD.

The 190-bed, six-storey application has increased in size from an earlier proposal to build only 154 beds over five storeys.

The total development investment will be more than $100 million, including the land and building.

According to a Keyton update, the aged care home will be completed in 2027.

The Bernborough Ascot precinct overlooks Doomben Racecourse, Ascot and is the first vertical retirement community in Australia to be built within a racecourse precinct.

The project is being built over four stages – Stage One of the retirement village opened in 2020.

Ascot Grove Care Community will occupy a 4,600 sqm site at 52 Hampden Street adjacent to the village with Bernborough Ascot residents able to move in if the need arises.

Opal HealthCare has also partnered with retirement village operator Aveo to deliver co-located aged care homes, taking on four of its homes in 2021 in a strategic partnership and a further site in Sydney earlier this year.

Stage Two of Keyton’s Bernborough Ascot retirement community, Poinciana House, is nearing completion, with 60% of the 53 independent living apartments already sold priced from $665,000 for a one-bedroom; $895,000 for a two-bedroom and $1.265 million for a three-bedroom. Its residents are expected to begin moving in from early 2025.
