Opinion: Home Care is not the panacea for the aged care beds crisis

The number of new aged care beds is about to head backwards while operators wait for the Government’s response to the Aged Care Taskforce to start building. Will home care save the day? Not likely.

Successive Governments have kicked the can down the road on aged care too many times and now Australia is confronting the repercussions. Additionally, despite high hopes for the new Support at Home program, it can’t fight demographics.

As we reported in this week’s SOURCE, new analysis by Australia’s largest Not For Profit provider Bolton Clarke has warned that the number of aged care beds is set to venture into negative territory over the next 12 months as closures outpace new developments.
