Out of the ordinary
Ryman Healthcare marks a decade in Australia

Founded in New Zealand in 1984, the company opened its Weary Dunlop Retirement Village in Wheelers Hill, Melbourne, in August 2014. Now Ryman is operating a further eight villages in Melbourne which are home to more than 2,000 residents.

Next week, Ryman Healthcare will reveal the name of its newest village in Mulgrave, 21km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD, which welcomed its first residents last week.

Ryman Healthcare Australia CEO Cameron Holland said: “From day one we’ve seen incredibly strong demand for Ryman’s unique continuum of care model here. That desire for an active, independent lifestyle with extra care and support on hand if it’s needed has really fueled our growth to date – and will continue to for decades to come.”

The company has also established itself as a prominent thought leader in the industry, publicly advocating for better retirement living and aged care options for all older Australians. In 2022, Ryman launched an aged care policy discussion paper, outlining a number of policy initiatives that would make the aged care sector more financially sustainable, alleviate pressure on the public health system, and increase housing supply.

Weary Dunlop Retirement Village’s 350 residents and staff celebrated their village’s 10th birthday with cake, bubbles, and a performance by Melba Opera Trust scholar Jesse Linke.
