Maronite Sisters propose 99-bed aged care home rebuild in Sydney’s Inner West as State Significant Development

1 min read

The Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family Village is proceeding with a State Significant Development (SSD) proposal to build a new four-storey, 99-bed aged care home with basement car parking on the site of an existing older aged care facility.

The existing aged care home, called Village 1, was built in 1997 with 54 beds.

The Secretary's Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) approval was granted in October, paving the way for the application to proceed to the next step in the SSD process.

The site in Wardell Road, Marrickville, in Sydney's Inner West about 10km from the city centre, also contains Village 2 with 47 residential aged care beds.

During the preparation of the application, a decision was made not to proceed with plans to refurbish two additional properties, Village 2 and a property at 46 Pine Street, to be used for "ancillary seniors living administration" and "additional residential aged care facility capacity".

Projects referred for State Significant Development approval must have a value of more than $30 million.
