Rental apartments in Uniting’s updated redevelopment plans for its biggest project Waverley Estate

The Not For Profit’s State Significant Development in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, held extensive community consultation in 2016/17 and in late 2021.

As a result, it has released a revised masterplan reflecting the feedback. Through the consultation process the community highlighted the protection of heritage buildings at the Estate, the inclusion of affordable housing, the impact on traffic and parking and the preservation of the surrounding environment.

If approved, the new masterplan will transform Waverley Estate over two stages and provide a mix of residential aged care, retirement and independent living apartments, including 23 affordable rental apartments, co-located with on-site support services and facilities, catering to seniors’ changing needs. Uniting has committed to providing a minimum of 10% of all dwellings on the site as affordable rental apartments.

“Our vision at Uniting is to allow the ageing population to live in their own homes for longer, while still having access to the key services they need as they age. The redevelopment of Uniting Waverley will allow us to continue to do this,” said Simon Furness, Uniting Director of Property and Housing.

Head of Property Development Adrian Ciano said the development proposal will see the Victorian heritage buildings at the Estate conserved, celebrated and restored.
