The Sydney-based retirement living business has sold its second former Freedom Aged Care site for social housing to the QLD Government.
The QLD Government bought the closed Aveo Freedom Aged Care Clayfield, 6km northeast of Brisbane’s CBD, in December last year.
Now the State Government has said it paid Aveo Retirement Living $10.6 million for the former Freedom aged care centre in the city of Toowoomba QLD, also late last year.
Acquired in Aveo’s purchase of Freedom Aged Care in 2016, the Toowoomba facility ran on the Freedom model of private aged care under the Retirement Villages Act.
It sits on more than 6,200sqm of land near the centre of Toowoomba and will be converted into social housing for more than 50 local residents.
“This complex will provide safe, secure and affordable housing for adults and new residents will be supported with quality accommodation, communal facilities, public transport nearby and support services,” QLD Government Housing Minister Leeanne Enoch said.
