Tatiara Retirement Village is a Not For Profit venture in Bordertown, 250km southeast of Adelaide, celebrating its 50th year.
Residents moved into the first six single-bedroom units in October 1973 and the village has been expanding ever since. From 1987 to 1993, the last of the single-bedroom units were built and in 1994 and 1995, eight, larger two-bedroom units with attached garages were built. More land has since been purchased, and units of various sizes continued to be built and occupied.
Tatiara Retirement Village Chairperson Peter Maney said it was now building two stand alone units and a duplex. At the annual general meeting last month, Peter said occupancy levels “remained high”.
“When budgeting, the Board allowed for two single bedroom rental units to be vacant for 12 months, the equivalent of 24 months with no return, however last year there was only a total of seven months that we had empty units and that was mainly due to units unavailable because of renovation, with unit 37 having a major refit,” he said.
Peter added that there were 160 people on the waitlist to move into the 48-unit village.
