VMCH CEO Sonya Smart reveals what makes her proudest in this week’s SATURDAY

When VMCH CEO Sonya Smart sat down with DCM for an article to feature in our SATURDAY digital magazine, she said the achievement she is proudest of is the Group’s dementia and end-of-life care developments.

The Catholic retirement living, residential aged care and home care provider, which delivers services to 7,600 Victorians, has been “able to rise to the challenge of caring for people when they’re their most vulnerable and their most needy,” Sonya said.

For VMCH’s retirement living operations, Sonya says long-term asset management plans are likely to become a requirement under changes to the Retirement Villages Act.

VMCH currently refurbishes its retirement homes on turnover, while communal areas are refurbished approximately every 10 years. Residents are kept informed of the changes, which includes developing interior design boards highlighting colours and finishes. The refurbs usually include changing the carpet, curtains and furniture, with the aim of making the communal areas “contemporary and appealing”, Sonya says.
