Warrigal has lodged a development application for the proposed rebuild of its shuttered Warilla aged care home into a new seniors living complex.
The redevelopment, announced earlier this year, will see the 140-bed home on the site torn down and replaced with 123 independent living units made up of 77 two-bedroom and 46 three-bedroom apartments, accompanied by amenities and a 179-vehicle carpark.
“In addition to the ILUs the development will include the provision of a village green, Community Hub, and a Multi Purpose Building comprising the redeveloped Op Shop and a new neighbourhood shop,” said planner Stantec in the statement of environmental effects.
According to the DA, the apartments will be spread out among six buildings of no higher than three storeys.
“The use of two to three-storey buildings, as opposed to single-storey development or a greater number of two-storey buildings allows for the vertical placement of building mass, which minimises the extent of site coverage,” it read.
Warrigal closed down the Warilla home this year, declaring it no longer fit for purpose; all residents were moved to the Not For Profit’s six other homes in the area.
