DCM Institute’s inaugural Lunch & Learn event a success

1 min read

100% of the 100+ NSW Village Managers who attended agree: this is one initiative not to be missed - the DCM Institute's first Lunch & Learn.

The DCM Institute held an exclusive event for NSW participants in their professional development program Lunch & Learn last Wednesday.

In the inaugural event, the DCM Institute team and the Retirement Village Residents Association of NSW was joined by NSW Fair Trading, who spoke to the review of the Retirement Village Regulations.

This aim is to provide Village Professionals with access to content and information from sources they would not otherwise have access to in their roles.

Some of the key take aways were:

  • The proposed simplification of the Asset Management Plan process which has been a thorn in the side of residents and operators alike;

  • An allowance for Fair Trading to share information with the NSW Aging and Disability Commission. An important step given the growing concern about the prevalence of Elder Abuse in retirement villages following an eye-opening study by the RVRA NSW.

An increase in the number of offensive provisions withing the NSW Rules of Conduct which will see operators face penalties for:

  • Not having developed a strategy for preventing elder abuse.

  • Failing to keep records of conflicts of interest.

  • Discouraging residents from making complaints or pursuing internal disputes
