Michael Reid AM appointed Independent Chair of aged care providers' peak body ACCPA

The former Director General of both New South Wales Health from 1997 to 2002 and Queensland Health from 2008 to 2011 replaces inaugural Chairman Dr Graeme Blackman AO, who is stepping down from the peak body after three years' service.

Mick, as he is known, heads his own consultancy business Michael Reid & Associates and is a Board member of Western Sydney Local Health District and Governing Board member (part time) of the Heart Research Institute.

He was Joint-Lead Independent Reviewer of the Federal Government’s 2022 Strengthening Medicare Review. Between 2004 and 2007, he was the Director General of the Ministry for Science and Medical Research in New South Wales.

Michael is an Adjunct Professor at both the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney and the School of Science and Health at the University of Western Sydney, and is an Honorary Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing.

Mick will take up the three-year appointment at the conclusion of ACCPA's AGM on 19 November 2024.

The recruitment process was led by a sub-committee of board members chaired by Baptcare CEO and Aged and Community Care Providers Association Deputy Chair, Geraldine Lannon.
