Aged Care Minister open to increased reporting on home care waiting lists

Aged Care Minister Anika Wells has indicated she is open to publishing more data about the availability and wait times for home care services.

"Measures that improve transparency and accountability that will give people faith in a new system, we look to support where we can," she told ABC News.

It was "a question for my friends in the Senate as they work through each amendment, starting this morning, through the week."

There were 76,000 older Australians waiting for their correct level of home care as of 30 September, a figure that only became available through questioning during the Senate Inquiry into the Aged Care Bill 2024.

Similarly, data showing that 3,383 Australians died while waiting to receive the home care they had been assessed as needing only came to light during a Budget Estimates hearing.

Quarterly wait times are currently published by the Department of Health and Aged Care, but they only provide a range period for the time consumers are waiting to receive home care.
