Still time to be part of the StewartBrown Retirement Living Performance Survey

1 min read

Stuart Hutcheon, Managing Partner at the business and tax accountants, who have a seat at the table with the Department of Health and Aged Care, told LEADERS SUMMIT 2025 its inaugural retirement living performance survey is powering forward.

With over 80 operators engaged, he said last Tuesday there is still three weeks to participate. He provided a preliminary survey release at the LEADERS SUMMIT.

"We're really looking forward to this data helping along with legislative and policy issues within the retirement living sector.” Stuart said.

Stuart stressed the importance of retirement living operators to engage as care increases in the retirement village value proposition.

"Grant (Cordorey), myself and David Sinclair are regularly speaking with the Department of Health and Aged Care and the government of the day and the Opposition as well, probably on a weekly basis in and around the issues,” Stuart said.

“We also spent the last few weeks meeting and talking with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner (Liz Hefren-Webb) around this liquidity stuff as well. So we've got a great line of communication with the key decision makers, which I think is important.

StewartBrown's Aged Care Financial Performance Survey Sector Report is a must for the sector and the department. It will replicate its aged care status in retirement living.

Stuart highlighted in “snapshots of the survey” 83% provide residential aged care, 56% of operators have home care services in operation, 44% provide rental properties, and 16% assisted living services.

He highlighted the home care services (see graph below) with 61% of operators providing their own Home Care Packages/ Commonwealth Home Support Programme to residents in need.

Stuart highlighted 26.8% of retirement living residents died in the village, with 43.5% of residents moving into residential aged care, slightly below those with a Home Care package.
