Fay Flevaras has been promoted to the role of Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) after being First Assistant Secretary Digital Transformation & Delivery – Aged Care Reform since 2021.

She has been instrumental in driving the extensive technology reforms within the Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC), including introducing the Government Provider Management System (GPMS), which is central to aged care reforms placing increased reporting requirements on providers.

Fay acted in the newly created CDIO role during the recruitment process which began last October, officially taking on the job on 14 January 2025.

As CDIO, she will be responsible for “leading the modernisation of the Health and Aged Care digital ecosystem to better support our stakeholders, our customers, and our people”.

IT a key focus - and cost - for DoHAC

The 2024-25 Federal Budget allocated $2.2 billion to aged care, of which more than half - $1.4 billion - was for the DoHAC’s aged care digital systems and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) infrastructure. In August 2024, the DOHAC awarded professional services giant Accenture a $289.4 million contract to support the DOHAC’s rollout of digital systems and aged care reforms.

In July 2024, the DoHAC released its Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy 2024-2029, which includes the GPMS, business to Government connectivity, AI and innovation frameworks, a virtual nursing in aged care project, My Aged Care to My Health Record integration, aged care data governance framework, and a healthy ageing support tool LiveUp
