A member of the woman’s family has also tested positive for coronavirus with NSW Health currently investigating how both contracted the virus.
There have been a number of COVID-19 cases recorded at retirement villages and land lease communities in NSW, Queensland and WA, but these have been limited to one or two cases.
A spokesperson from Lendlease tells us that the health and safety of their residents is paramount and they have introduced a number of measures over the past month to protect residents.
“These include social distancing, greatly reducing the number of non-essential employees and contractors visiting our villages, as well as discontinuing group activities, closing all community centres and communal facilities including gyms, libraries, cinemas, and swimming pools.”
Communal areas are also being cleaned more frequently.
“We’re also working closely with our external home care providers to make sure they have appropriate plans in place to minimise any risk to our village communities,” the spokesperson said.
“Additionally, to assist with social distancing, we’re also purchasing essential supplies for each village including toiletries, non-perishable items and essential fridge and freezer food to provide to residents. Our staff are also helping residents with arranging online grocery orders.”
Dee Why, 18km northeast of the Sydney CBD on the Northern Beaches, has been a hotspot for the virus in NSW with 154 confirmed cases.
