Following crisis talks with the Victorian aged care sector on Friday, Health Minister Greg Hunt and Aged Care Minister, Senator Richard Colbeck announced the Government would set up the Victorian Aged Care Response Centre on Saturday to respond to outbreaks quickly and coordinate communication with families.
The Centre will also be responsible for working with aged care providers to ensure staff aren’t working across more than one facility.
The Centre – which will be based at the State Control Centre in Melbourne – will bring together:
- the Federal Government
- Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Victoria
- Emergency Management Australia (EMA)
- Emergency Management Victoria (EMV)
- Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
- and Defence
An executive team including clinical and operational leads.
