UnitingCare Queensland's BlueCare Retirement Living General Manager, Natalie Smith, said it is progressing development plans for a new community on the eastern half of its 6.4 ha site at Bokarina Beach in the coastal suburb on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

The village is situated next to Club Kawana, with easy access to the beach, hospitals and healthcare services, shops, cafes and transport connections.

Architectus Conrad Gargett are working with UnitingCare to create a future-ready design based on sustainability and healthy living.

“Homes will be architecturally designed in a way to make the most of an easy living coastal lifestyle. We know this style of living is in demand and we are hoping to deliver the first 28 beach houses (pictured) in 2027,” Natalie said.

Village residents will have easy links to groups and facilities in the wider community including the neighbouring Club Kawana bowls club and other sports facilities nearby as well as access to BlueCare’s home care services.

The development should be in demand with the Sunshine Coast population increasing by 30% in the 10 years until 2021 and predicted to continue at pace. The highest growth is seen in people aged over 65 years, where the rate is three times faster than for the general population.

There is also an intention to develop the western half of the site in the future. UnitingCare is focused on developing the eastern portion  first.
