Murraylands Retirement Village in Murray Bridge, SA, buys surrounding land to expand

There are 67 existing independent living homes for over 55s in the Not For Profit community organisation’s retirement village in Murray Bridge, the city 78km east-southeast of the state's capital, Adelaide.

Village Manager Rowena Fox said it had bought adjoining land from Scouts Australia included a hall, which it will renovate into a Recreation Centre for the village.

“We already have a vacant parcel of land next to the Scouts’ land, which we plan for an approximately 18-unit development in the future. We also hope to purchase land from the Murray Bridge Council that adjoins both our existing parcel and the Scouts parcel of land. This will allow us to occupy the entire block and possibly increase the development from 18 units up to 30 affordable units,” she said.

The city is proving a magnet for retirees with Living Choice’s plans lodged with PlanSA in March for 230 two- and three-bedroom homes in a $100m land lease “over-55s lifestyle village” beside the golf course. RSL Care SA’s Waterford Estate retirement village with 137 homes is seeking to build another six to satisfy demand.
