New entrant set to transform boutique WA hotel into luxury aged care development

1 min read

Oryx Communities will spend six months redeveloping the Richardson Hotel and Spa in West Perth into high-end residential aged care accommodation after it closes its doors this month.

Billed as an Australian-first, Oryx says the facility will offer “prestige aged care and home-care services to people looking for a personalised experience”.

The on-site restaurant and bar will be maintained for residents and visitors along with other amenities so for example, residents can host barbecues by the pool while their grandchildren swim.

Residents will be housed in 92 units over eight storeys with 10 to 12 residents per level and the option of two-bedroom apartments and a penthouse suite.

Oryx Communities managing director Nita Peploe says they plan to keep the same name and high standards of the hotel.

“We are not an aged-care facility pretending to be a hotel. We will be offering genuine hotel-service in a warm, hospitable aged-care environment,” she said.

Oryx also offers premium home care services. The group was formed by Ms Peploe, who previously owned/operated an aged care and retirement business with over 400 residents, with Toby Browne-Cooper and James Turnbull. All have over 20 years’ experience in the aged care sector.
