Anglicare Sydney CEO Simon Miller told Anika Wells, the Health and Aged Care Minister, at the LEADERS SUMMIT 2023, that the Not for Profit would pass on every dollar the Federal Government provides to fund the 1 July pay rise.
“Anglicare pledges to pass on every dollar the Federal Government provides to wages and employment costs for these increases to our amazing staff,” Simon said.
He then wrote to his staff: “Can I just offer my thanks to you for your service in caring for our elders. This announcement is recognition of your hard work, your passion and your commitment.”
Simon urged other providers to support the pledge.
Minister Wells earlier told the 550-strong audience that it would honour the Fair Work Commission’s decision to grant a 15% pay rise to workers from 30 June.
Simon, in his speech to the LEADERS SUMMIT 2023, also said there was a need to reduce the demand for residential aged care and he believed the concept on integrated villages was the key.
“We are moving our existing stock of 25 villages and our pipeline of new builds to integrated campuses, delivering holistic person-centered care and that includes hospitality, it includes lifestyle, includes activities and it includes care.”
He revealed “all but one of our residents at Gordon (Gordon Quarter) has got home care from Anglicare.
“We’ve put dedicated care workers in the village and so they're able to work really closely on the resident’s care needs. We’re actually really, really hopeful that that model will mean that those people can stay in their homes safe and well and flourishing in their communities for much, much longer.”
