Baw Baw Shire Council in Victoria’s Gippsland is the latest Council to announce it will step away from delivery of direct care aged and disability support services from 30 June next year.
The Council based in Warragul, 102km southeast of Melbourne, said in a statement it had decided to withdraw from these services “due to significant State and Federal reforms in the aged and disability sectors”.
“The reforms involve major changes to the way home support programs are funded, planned and delivered. Their aims are to increase the number of service providers, and create more choice and flexibility for consumers. As a result of the reforms the role of local government in delivering direct care services has been reduced,” said the Council.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council in May said it wanted to sell off its two aged care facilities, the 40-bed Yallambee Lodge in Cooma and 14-bed Snowy River Hostel in Berriedale.
The Weekly Source reported last Thursday that Cooinda Aged Care Centre in Gympie, 171km north of Brisbane’s CBD, owned and managed by the community since 1965, has been sold to Lutheran Services Queensland.
