Australia’s first hotel-to-aged care transformation opens its doors

As we reported here, Oryx Communities purchased the Richardson Hotel and Spa in West Perth last year and has spent $14 million to redevelop the 92-room hotel into high-end aged care accommodation.

The new facility offers seven styles of rooms and suites across eight floors, with RADs ranging from $800,000 to $1.2 million depending on size.

The former hotel also features a bar, restaurant, dining room, outdoor entertaining area and pool designed with Design Institute of Australia WA President Gavin Campbell and local commercial stylist KT Crocker.

Managing Director Nita Peploe said they have been through each and every room, repainting and refitting the bathrooms and kitchenettes.

“We’ve retained the hotel styling throughout but ensured that there is easy access into showers and toilets and that the bedding offers our residents ultimate comfort,” she said.

Oryx is run by Ms Peploe and business partners Toby Browne-Cooper and James Turnbull, and also provides premium home care services.

Ms Peploe’s family were also behind Middle Head Healthcare (MHHC), which lost its bid to build an aged care facility on public land overlooking Sydney Harbour in 2015.
