BaptistCare has unveiled plans for an expansion of its site at Elderslie in Sydney’s southwest to include an extension of its Angus Bristow retirement community and a new 96-bed aged care home.
The aged care home, designed by Calderflower and built by Grindley Construction, will use a “small household” model, with 16 bedrooms grouped together and linked to common areas, while the Angus Bristow expansion will add 36 units to the retirement village’s existing 48.
A major factor in the provider’s decision to expand was a Camden Council forecast that the region would see a 57.4% increase in retirement-age residents from 2016 to 2026, resulting in one in five residents being over 65.
According to Charles Moore, CEO of BaptistCare (pictured), the expansion will bring Baptistcare’s total investment in the Macarthur region to around $60 million.
“We’re also incredibly conscious of the benefits of intergenerational living, so we want to see our Elderslie site, including the retirement community, community housing tenants, and older people, continue to be part of a vibrant place that champions true community and connection,” he said.
“Both the village and community housing already have community centres onsite to facilitate events and activities, and the new aged care home will similarly feature opportunities for visitors to connect with residents and spend time together in and outdoors.”
BaptistCare opened a $35 million seniors’ community housing development opposite Angus Bristow Village in 2020. Development on the Angus Bristow extension and the new aged care home are expected to be completed by 2024.
