Clayton Church Homes has lodged plans with Adelaide Hills Council to redevelop Summerhill, a 24-bed aged care home in Uraidla, around 50 minutes from the Adelaide CBD.
The upgrade would increase the number of beds by 60, and Clayton Church Homes would be able to employ an extra 40 people at the site.
The current home would be demolished and replaced with two double-storey buildings, eight water storage tanks and a new carpark.
At $18 million, the project would be the most expensive in the town’s history.
Clayton Church Homes chief executive Nino DiSisto says they would like to have the project completed by early 2022 to cater for the growing demand for aged care in the region.
“It’s the biggest development this town has ever seen,” Mr DiSisto said.
“The existing facility was an old hospital which was modified over the years so the facility aged care but it still doesn’t suit our needs.”
Clayton Church Homes will reportedly also have to meet predetermined bushfire resistance and on-site wastewater disposal requirements.
