The number of residential aged care homes with COVID-19 cases in NSW continues to increase.
NSW Health Department figures showed the coronavirus in a further 18 RAC homes during the last week. As of 8am last Friday, NSW Health said 43 aged care homes had active cases of COVID-19 with 172 active cases in aged care residents – an increase of 23 from last week – and 86 in staff members – an additional 13.
NSW Health announced on Tuesday that a woman in her 90s, from western Sydney, is the third death linked to a COVID-19 outbreak at Hardi-owned Guildford Aged Care Facility, 20km west of Sydney’s CBD. She died at Westmead Hospital. On Sunday, it announced a woman, aged in her 60s, from Western Sydney, who was a resident at Gallipoli Home in Auburn, 16km west of Sydney’s CBD, had died at Ryde Hospital.
Three residents have also died with COVID-19 at Catholic Healthcare St Mary’s Villa in the city of Dubbo, 303km northwest of Sydney’s CBD.
Advantaged Care at Prestons Lodge, Prestons, 37km southwest of Sydney’s CBD also recorded its first resident death in the last week.
The numbers are still well below last year however when, as of 11 September 2020, 580 aged care residents with the virus died.
As of 20 September 2021, 160,406 residents have received two doses of vaccine, which Federal Government states is 90.1% of all residents.
