Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has indicated the Coalition will cooperate with Labor moves to ask wealthier Australians to contribute more to their costs of aged care, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.
Dutton has already indicated he will support Labor’s plans to contain the rising costs of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and now, according to the AFR, has told colleagues that reforms to deal with the increasing ageing population are vital, and he will support them – even if they are politically unpopular.
We have reached out to the Opposition Leader’s office for confirmation of these comments but at the time of publishing have not received a response.
