Exposure draft for SIRS in home care now open for comment

The Federal Government has released an exposure draft of its plan to extend the Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) to home and flexible care.

The SIRS was first introduced for residential aged care under the Morrison Government last year, and the Albanese Government is expanding it to home care.

From 1 December, home and flexible care providers will need to have an incident management system (IMS) in place and report any incidents to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.

“The government has committed to extending the SIRS to include home care and flexible care provided in a community setting,” the said Department of Health and Aged Care.

“This extends protections to more than one million older Australians receiving in-home aged care services.”

Feedback on the draft, which is available online, can be emailed to sirs@health.gov.au by
5pm (AEDT) on 13 November.
