A “small number” of residents are refusing to leave Feros Care’s aged care facility in Byron Bay, though the home is due to close on 23 June 2023.
In a statement, Feros Care said the remaining residents have been provided with an on-site GP, counsellors, and access to independent placement and advocacy services. Lifestyle activities and onsite cooking are also continuing while residents remain living there.
“The priority is supporting the wellbeing of remaining residents as they transition to their new home,” Feros Care said.
The provider is obligated to continue to look after residents under Security of Tenure legal obligations.
T
he Aged Care Quality & Safety Commission (ACQSC) completed an onsite visit recently and reported they were “happy” with the quality of care provided at Feros Care Village Byron Bay, the Feros statement said. Feros Care said they have “no option” but to close the home as the buildings are no longer fit for purpose, due to new Government regulations. The home was built 33 years ago as a low-care hostel.
All staff have been offered alternative positions at Feros Care’s other aged care homes and in the organisation’s home care operations.
