Goodwin Aged Care in Canberra has been given free use of a new Hyundai Ioniq electric vehicle and charging station for 12 months, as part of a pilot program with Council on the Ageing (COTA) and utilities company ActewAGL.
Nurses from Goodwin’s Home Care arm will use the car to deliver services to seniors in and around the Canberra region. According to Goodwin Chief Operating Officer Stephen Holmes (pictured above, left), the program compliments Goodwin’s existing sustainability efforts including those at Goodwin Village in Farrer.
“Goodwin places a great importance on minimising the impact that we have on our environment. We’re grateful to ActewAGL for the opportunity to explore this new technology, and I know that our staff and home care clients are going to thoroughly enjoy the ride,” he said.
Rachael Turner, General Manager of ActewAGL Retail (pictured above, centre), said the energy provider is looking to raise access to and awareness of electric vehicles throughout the ACT.
“We are delighted to work with Goodwin Aged Care on this pilot program to support the community adoption of electric vehicles.
“Transport is the single biggest contributor of carbon emissions in the ACT and surrounds, which is why we are focused on helping the ACT community increase EV ownership,” she said.
