Govt-run QLD aged care facility in danger of being closed down

1 min read

The Courier Mail is reporting that the 60-bed Cooinda House at Kippa-Ring, 27km northeast of Brisbane, could close down after the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency (AACQA) found there was an “immediate and severe risk to the health, safety and wellbeing of care recipients.”

Its report said the home breached standards regarding safety systems, infection control, the privacy and dignity of residents.

There were also allegations of violence, sexual impropriety and bullying going back three years, with stories of cockroaches being found in medication fridges and staff having sex “during work hours”.

The reporter does note that 40 of Cooinda’s beds are high-care and designated for people with dementia, brain injuries and psychiatric disorders – difficult cases to provide care for.

Still, do we need yet another Govt-run facility making headlines?
