Cottesloe Living, Health & Aged Care, a joint venture between aged care provider Hall & Prior and the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund, has been selected to redevelop the historic Cottesloe Deaf School in Perth’s beachside western suburb into a residential aged care home.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the JV and the WA Government, the West Australian Foundation for Deaf Children will remain on the site with new facilities, and residential aged care and seniors accommodation will be added.
Built in 1896 by the Foundation, the school was taken over by the State Government in 1949. According to WA Lands and Housing Minister John Carey (pictured), the announcement provides certainty and clarity around the site’s future.
“We have an ageing community and providing quality aged care which allows people to remain within their community is absolutely critical.
“To see the redevelopment of this site deliver more housing choices for ageing Western Australians, particularly those in the local community, is a fantastic outcome,” he said.
“The plan also includes keeping the West Australian Foundation for Deaf Children on the site – which will continue the long association between the foundation and this iconic location.”
There is as yet no detail on the capacity of the proposed home. The WA Government will now enter a period of negotiation with Cottesloe Living, Health & Aged Care.
