HammondCare is set to open a new $14 million dementia care facility at its Strathearn House residential aged care home in Scone, NSW, next month.
Dubbed Dartbrook and Segenhoe, the two cottages will house 30 beds between them, adding to the 64 existing beds at Strathearn House. Each cottage contains 15 private ensuite rooms plus living areas and domestic kitchen; there is also a new community building and landscaped gardens.
HammondCare CEO Mike Baird (pictured centre) says the facility will support aged care residents with complex needs in the Upper Hunter region.
“These new dementia-specific cottages are designed based on evidence-based principles to promote choice, minimise confusion and maximise independence for people living with dementia,” he said.
The provider has also added three new independent living units to the site, expanding upon the nine existing units and allowing it to close down the Strathearn Village building, which was built in the 1980s and leased from the Hunter New England Local Health District.
