The Not For Profit has been given the green light to start construction next month on two new eight-bed cottages at its Horsley aged care service near Dapto, 16km from the Wollongong CBD.
The $6.9 million proposal will add a further 16 beds to the current 90-bed residential service offered in six existing dementia-supportive cottages.
HammondCare General Manager Residential Care Angela Raguz said the smaller cottage-like approach had proven far more successful in treating people with dementia.
“This development gives us an even greater opportunity to improve quality of life for people in need living in Illawarra,” Ms Raguz said.
The development is set to be complete in late 2021.
