Infinite Care partners with QLD Government to open 45-bed rehab hospital ward at Cairns aged care home

1 min read

Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service has opened a 45-bed ‘ward’ at Infinite Care’s Edge Hill residential aged care facility, which is located in Manoora, a suburb of Cairns.

The ‘satellite ward’ will be located in an annex of the main residential aged care facility and will be called the ‘Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, Sub-Acute Care Unit’.

The ward will have the capacity to house up to 45 older patients requiring sub-acute care or rehabilitation, and is unique to the local community. The arrangement gives the hospital the capacity to increase its admissions.

Private operator Infinite Care, which was founded in 2014 and has 17 aged care facilities across QLD, SA and NSW, will continue to operate Infinite Care Edge Hill, which has 120 beds, independently from the ward.

Clinical Director of the Older Persons Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Unit, Dr Edward Strivens, said: “The facility... is perfect for providing care to older persons and those requiring rehabilitation.

“It has the full support of an interprofessional team of nurses, allied health professionals and specialist doctors on site covering the facility 24/7.

“The ward is fully integrated with our sub-acute services across the care continuum – at home and in Residential Aged Care Facilities, in the emergency department and the acute hospital, as well as with supports following discharge such as our transition care program and community health services.”

Chris Stride, Co-Founder and Joint Managing Director, Infinite Care

Infinite Care’s Founders and Joint Managing Directors, Chris Stride and Tony Partridge, said: “We are excited to enhance our relationship with CHHHS which will enable the residents of the Cairns community and Infinite Care Edge Hill to access expanded services when their care needs require it.

“Relationships of this nature only enhance the ability of Infinite Care to provide outstanding care to its residents.”
