Israel vaccinates all of its aged care residents against COVID – as cases in UK aged care homes triple

1 min read

Israel is leading the way after successfully administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to every one of its almost 150,000 aged care residents in just 10 days.

The country has made the vaccine available to every citizen over 60 years of age but they rolled out the vaccine to aged care homes so that the most vulnerable residents didn’t have to leave.

Magen David Adom Director General Eli Bin praised the effort of health officials after the successful second round of vaccinations in early January.

Almost 20 out of every 100 Israelis have already received the vaccine, the most per-capita of any country.

However, Israel reported a surge of 10,000 COVID-19 cases on Monday, sparking fears the vaccine may not be as effective as originally thought.

Meanwhile COVID-19 cases in UK aged care homes have tripled as Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised all residents will be vaccinated by the end of January.

The Prime Minister’s announcement came as the country recorded another 1,162 COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the nation’s total deaths to almost 90,000.
