Karen Borg has stepped down from her role as CEO of Catholic Healthcare, effective 28 April 2023, with former Chief Operating Officer, Josh McFarlane, taking over from her.
Karen, who was formerly the head of the national public health information service Healthdirect Australia, joined the NSW and Southeast Qld aged care provider as CEO less than two years ago.
Last financial year, Catholic Healthcare, which owns more than 43 residential aged care homes and 12 retirement villages, as well as home care services, reported a loss of $60 million.
Rachel Garcia, Chief Strategy Officer, Catholic Healthcare, told The Weekly SOURCE, Karen’s “leadership has resulted in a stronger organisation with a greater capacity to support residents and clients and a more capable, engaged and resilient workforce.
“We’re all grateful for Karen’s efforts and respectful of her decision that now is the right time to move on.
“Josh will bring a wealth of experience to the CEO role, specifically a deep understanding and passion for the Australian aged care sector after holding several leadership roles across some of Australia’s largest aged care providers over the past seven years.”
Karen joined Catholic Healthcare in August 2021 following the resignation of longtime Managing Director David Maher.
