In an Extraordinary Meeting, Kiama Council on the NSW South Coast has agreed to sell all its aged care services at Blue Haven Bonaira site and have appointed StewartBrown Advisory to coordinate the tender and sale.

The council made the decision in an effort to address its financial problems.

The council has elected to hold onto their independent living units at Blue Haven Terralong, but will commission a report on the site.

The council said Blue Haven has been a significant factor in the council’s financial difficulties, which were identified by the NSW Auditor General.

The “difficult but important” Extraordinary Meeting was held at The Pavilion Kiama due to about 150 people registering to attend.

Mayor Neil Reilly said, “I am pleased that we reached a consensus, with some give-and-take from all sides. Tough decisions were made, the outcomes of which have given us a solid path forward towards a sustainable future for our Council and our municipality.”
