Known as the Health and Wellbeing Precinct, the 7.5 hectare development at the University’s Innovation Campus will feature 199 independent retirement units, a 108-bed aged care facility, childcare centre and retail shops.
The first stage will also include a primary and community health clinic modelled on the US’ Mayo Clinics offering a range of services including aged care, respite care, rehabilitation services and mental health services.
University of Wollongong vice-chancellor Paul Wellings said Lendlease had provided “the most comprehensive development concept and vision” for the precinct following a national open-market Expression of Interest process that began in November 2016.
Lendlease are our largest village operator with over 12,500 units across 71 villages nationally and say they plan to partner with a local aged care provider for the development.
They will be looking for a candidate soon. UOW expects construction to start in 2020 with the first facilities to open by 2022.
