mecwacare management tour its John Hood Terrace aged care facility development in Richmond, Melbourne

The 80-bed aged care home will be built over six levels, retaining a heritage facade, with a sweeping view of the Melbourne CBD.

LIFE Architecture and Urban Design have designed the residential home, which was formerly a hotel, to be named after John Hood, who has a 30-year association with the provider, including 23 years on the Board, 11 as Chair. John later served as a volunteer with the organisation. As Chair, John oversaw a significant expansion of mecwacare to the extent the provider now cares for more than 20,000 people across Victoria today. mecwacare has 19 aged care homes, six retirement villages and has community centres in Malvern East, Pakenham, and Cowes (Phillip Island).

The first sod of John Hood Terrace was turned in May last year, and the home is expected to be complete in late 2025, slightly later than originally anticipated.

Anne McCormack MAICD, who was appointed Chief Executive of mecwacare in September 2023; Derek McMillan, Founder and Managing Director of Centennial Living; Peter Nilsson, Chief Operating Officer, The Village Glen, and Noral Wild, Head of Alternatives, Asia Pacific Australia, Cushman & Wakefield, joined Kaizaad Mehta, Head of Healthcare & Industry Specialisation, Westpac, at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, for a Westpac Conversations in Melbourne luncheon earlier this year.
