NSW care workers to receive fee-free TAFE next year

1 min read

NSW TAFE will offer more than 40,000 free courses for care workers, including aged care, following a $319 million 12-month Skills Agreement between the NSW and Federal Governments.

The agreement will cover around 120,000 TAFE places in 2023, including 40,200 in the care sector, though of these 10,000 will be earmarked for early childhood education and care.

Brendan O’Connor MP (pictured right, with NSW Skills Minister Alister Henskens), Federal Minister for Skills and Training, said the agreement is important to address the nation’s skills crisis.

“If we want to provide greater opportunity in NSW for secure and rewarding employment, we must be able to skill and reskill our workforce.

“Whether it’s a need to build our care sector, construction, hospitality and tourism, or technology and digital sectors, we need to deliver these skills at a time of acute skills shortages,” he said.

The requirements for Certificate III qualifications in aged care were recently overhauled to bring them in line with Royal Commission recommendations.
