Georges River Council in Sydney is soliciting community feedback on a proposal by Regis to redevelop its Hurstville residential aged care facility.
The current Regis Hurstville home supports 96 beds as well as palliative and respite care services, and Regis seeks to upgrade it into a three- to four-storey facility with 110 beds.
According to planning advisory firm Mecone, which prepared Regis’ Planning Proposal, the redevelopment will improve local access to quality aged care.
“In this context, the Proponent’s vision is to redevelop the site for an aged care facility that meets contemporary standards, is of high-quality design and provides an array of ancillary uses that will improve the quality of life and care for occupants.
“The aged care facility envisaged by this Planning Proposal will also continue to provide ageing in place, palliative care and respite care services; however, is capable of supporting a greater number of occupants as well as staff,” the proposal reads.
Georges River Council last year endorsed the proposal, provided the facility has a 1.6:1 floor space ratio and maximum building heights of 12, 14 and 16 metres.
“Council has supported the Planning Proposal with no Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) as the Planning Proposal limits the intensification of a future residential care facility to 110 beds,” the Council said on its Your Say website.
Plans are on public exhibition until 3 June.
